We don't want anyone to go through what we went through. In order to make sure this doesn't happen again we had intended to create a non-profit foundation with the vision of eliminating all ocean-related fatalities for visitors to the Dominican Republic.
As we began to work with key people on this mission, we realized that a new Foundation was not necessarily the best way to go. We may be able to achieve our goals by using the expertise, contacts, and organizations that are already working to help save lives. We have had great success in bringing Canadian life-saving trainers to the Dominican Republic in order to train resort staff to better respond to emergency situations. Canadians like Tim Hall, Gordon Richardson, and Yanik Beauregard have helped us make great progress, and it will be their skills and dedication that will help us achieve our mission.
As for our family's role in preventing further loss of life in the Dominican Republic, we have committed to using the funds that were donated to us in trust to help sponsor the travel for Canadian life-saving trainers to the Dominican Republic. Our hope is that we can build a sustainable life-saving training program in the Dominican Republic. Visit our Donations page to see how you can help.
